Very Rare V&A Museum Marie AntoinettePorcelain & Gilt Striking Mantel Clock. The Marie Antoinette Clock is one of the most famous and most precious clocks in the world.
It took more than 30 years to complete the assembly of the clock. It saw the light of day in 1827, years after Marie Antoinette was executed (1793) during the French Revolution, and after the death of Breguet himself. This reproduction by the V&A is in great used condition with the odd imperfection and slight bend in rear leg commensurate with its age and use with one small repair to a Laurel leaf (Glued). These are very rare to the market and are fitted with a floating balance wheel escapement which runs like clockwork. It delicately strikes a bell on the hour and half hour keeping a very accurate time. The case is made from hand painted fine porcelain with a plethora of Gilt decoration and fitted with a Jewelled clock face door, Its stands 17 H x 10W x 4.5D with the provenance plate fixed to the underside (removed for photos).
